I work, what I believe, to be the best schedule ever.
I work 3 12-hour shifts overnight, and then I get 4 days off work. I get almost a whole week completely to myself, and I have plenty of time to spend with my family.
Sure, 12 hours is a long shift, but you just get all the work out of the way so fast and get more time to be free during the week, it’s totally worth it.
I will admit that Mondays are hard, I’m exhausted and spend most of my day lying around watching Netflix and napping with the dog.
Take it further; I’ll work 3 days a week 16 hours a day. I HATE having to plan around work every single day; having work just makes the rest of the day awful. I’d rather just take 3 days of nonstop grueling work and have every other day all to myself
Years ago I had a job like that and it wasn’t all that bad, but I wouldn’t want to do it again. If you have any kind of commute, you accomplish nothing but work on work days.
Had that schedule for a few years and I’d love to go back to it. Truly a game changer when holidays turn into 3 day work weeks and 4 day weekends, or when you get called for overtime and make real money for working 5 days a week. I’d jump at the chance to have that schedule again.
I’m assuming you are making the comparison to 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week, and the answer is hell yes! The 4/10 schedule is a marked improvement over the 5/8. It provides more time to focus on your personal interests.
Absolutely. Have actually done it in the past. Problem is with the type of work you do or that what your company does. My current company would still need to be “open” for service 5 days a week and even some on the weekends. Makes it harder to staff the full calendar.
yes, I currently work about 41 hours over 5 days but I can’t go to concerts (it’s my main hobby) on any of those five days since the concerts start at 16:00-19:00 and I usually finish work at 21:00 so I’d rather have an extra free day for concerts and only four days where I can’t go
Best shift is the one I am currently on 3 12s weekend days. Sure you lose your weekend but 4 days off is hard to beat. Take three days off with pto and get almost 2 weeks off. It is the most productive shift out of all of them and everyone is happier as whole it’s a win win.
Absolutely not – this is my least favorite shift. I currently work five 8 hour shifts per week, but I would do three 12 hour shifts easily before I did four 10s again. With the 12s I got a second wind and 3 days off, with 10s I got exhausted and one day off was not enough.
I used to work this schedule many years ago and I absolutely loved it. Always had Fri-Sun off and I worked in an office where I basically did financial crime investigations and got to listen to music/podcasts all day. I miss that and I could totally do it today in my current job working in I.T.
I worked in a hospital working 3 12s. I’d rather do that. My husband works 4 10s and then gets Friday off if he wants but he usually goes in for the OT.
Yes, already do that. It’s good, because it actually lets me do important tasks on Fridays without using up my PTO…like going to the RMV, seeing a doctor/specialist, etc.
I have worked 4 10s for 22 years. When I’m working close to home its really great. When my drive is 1.5 hours each way it’s only good because I only do it 4 times (and I get per diem $105 a day) but not as good as a 20 mile Drive obviously. This year though we have the option for overtime so I can work Fridays to get 10 more or 8 or whatever plus another day of per diem. Hell i worked good Friday for double time+holiday pay+per diem. Im like… will i work?
Hell yea Jesus will understand.
I work four 10’s and I can’t imagine going back to five 8’s. I absolutely love having 3 days off and an extra 52 days a year to do what I want. Adding an extra 2 hours onto your work day is easy. You get so used to it that working 8 hours feels unproductive.
I do and I absolutely love it. I love having that extra day off, three days off a week is awesome and if it’s a long weekend, I only have to work three days which is even better. It wouldn’t work well if you have young children though.
I did both 4 days 10-hour and 3 days 12-hours shift at various time I was working. Initially, adjusting to longer hour was kind of hard for me but you will get used to it.
For myself, I ended up preferring 4 days 10-hour shift as good compromise over 3 days 12-hour shift.
I already work 5-10s. Friday is all OT. So no, I couldn’t afford to take off 1 day. I used to work a rotating shift 36-48, 4 weeks days 4 weeks nights. Did that for 17 years and grew to hate it. Now that I’m on 5-10s, I miss the shit out of having 15 days off every month in the rotating shift. But its too late to go back, so it is what it is.
How about 4 days a week with a 20% pay bump.
I hate the idea that I eat up half my life at work, but starting at 9 and finishing at 7 would absolutely kill my psyche long term.
Get a salaried corporate job and I promise you, you’ll work an actual of 20-30 hours per week and still get paid the full 40. Yes sometime you’ll have to rev up, but it’s literally the easiest money you can make.
Not for me. Commute to work isn’t too bad, and homeward is empty streets due to late hours. I do lab work that involves both repetitive motions with tools in both hands and looking at a computer screen, so worst of both worlds? 10 would be too much. Plus I get a $20 bonus per shift due to nature of work, so would lose that.
I did get to work this schedule (off wed, sat, sun) for like 6 months at my last job and would kill to do it again. I used Wednesdays for most appointments, errands, etc. and would have weekends almost entirely to myself guilt-free at the cost of coming in an hour earlier and leaving an hour later, which I honestly barely noticed.
I might be an outlier but in my HCOL area, I work a full time job M-F, and fill in with gig work for another 10 hours a week. I like having a routine, and me realistically working 5-8 hours every day is something that works for me at this point in my life. Rather than taking full days off, I work while my s/o is sleeping or working and that gives us more time together. At this point I’m very happy with my schedule and wouldn’t change it right now
I used to work four 10hr days, and I loved it. I had a bonus day to do whatever I wanted, and the 10s didn’t feel that bad to me (I was working remote for a tech company).
I gave it up though when I had kids. I just couldn’t work that late in the day, when little ones go to bed so early.
I’m at a new company now so I’m sure I’ll never be able to get it back, but I’d always hoped I could do it again when the kids were older. It was the best.
The majority of people aren’t working for those 40 hours anyway. They’re sitting around an office, chatting, gossiping, taking breaks. Why not just cut it down to, say, 4 days x 6 hours, but everyone has to actually get all their work done in that time? And then we can be paid for the work we do and not just the time it takes for us to do it.
I did this ( worked ten and a half hour days for four days then had three days off) and I am completely burnt out. But I’m also neurodivergent and have several health issues that may of made it more difficult for me.
Yeah, I did this for six years at my old job and loved it. Now I work in healthcare and work nine days in a row, which isn’t fun at all. I wish I could go back to tens.
I prefer my current situation, which is getting paid full time while only working 2-4 hours/day and making my own schedule. As long as my job gets done, who cares how long it takes me?
I work from home whenever I want and make all of my own hours. I take off any day I want. Why would I want to be stuck doing the same thing day after day after day with no choice to change it whenever I choose? It’s totally bizarre to me.
I have done this before, and 4-10’s are far superior than 5-8’s. As far as being more tired on a work-day, you get used to it.
Every weekend is a 3-day weekend, for rest and doing the things your family likes. If you want to take a 9-day vacation, you only need to use four vacation days instead of five.
I work 2 12 hour days, then I’m off for 24 hours and do 2 12 hour night shifts. Then I get 4 days off. It makes for strange days because I used to look forward to weekends. Now, I never really know what day of the week it is
This one worked a factory job in college, and at first they were 5 days at 8 hours a day. But partway through they switched to 4 days at 10 hours a day, and everyone preferred that.
I alternated between 4x 10 hour day shifts and 3x 12 hour grave shifts and I liked them both. With the 10s, it doesn’t feel too much longer(granted I was starting at 5am) and the extra day w a awesome. I could get shopping and chores or appointments in the evening tra day and still feel like I had a full weekend to relax, be social, go camping ect.
12s felt similar. Sleep in the first day but by the time I woke up in the afternoon, I still had most of the day plus some since I was on a night schedule. It was an active job so falling asleep wasn’t really possible but I think if it wasn’t so strenuous it’d be tough doing the long Graves.
Now I have a new job where I work closer to 5x 9-10 hours so the overtime money is nice but it sucks for the weekend feeling drained
If I had three consecutive days off absolutely I would. Almost had this at my current job but I wasn’t guaranteed consecutive days off. Consecutive days off means plenty of time for personal stuff plus rest.
I have worked 4-10s before. And I much preferred it. I was more productive, and then always had a 3 day weekend. If a holiday were to fall on a Friday then I got the following Monday off. So I would get a 4 day weekend as well. I miss that schedule.
I work in a service industry (construction). If we agreed to a 4×10 work week the clients would just pay for that extra day or two to accelerate the schedule.
I did 9/80 in defense and it was great. You worked 9.hours a day and got every other Friday off. You could also sometimes swing 4 days a week (10/80?)
It was great because you didn’t really feel the extra hour every day. Also it was entirely optional if you wanted to partake. The Fridays off always felt amazing. It’s the ONLY perk from defense I miss.
I used to do 4 10s back in the day. It’s certainly preferable to 5 10s, (when mandatory overtime happened). It kind of killed me during my workweek, but the days off were nice. Made me not want to go back. I think the Nordics got it right working 36 hours a week with a 40 week pay. How much real WORK do you do in a 40 hour week anyway?
I worked all types of hours. Here a little bit from my experience.
12 hour shifts. I worked 3 days for 36 hours a week and had 4 days off. It’s nice having all that free time. Sure the 12 hour shifts aren’t great. By the last hour I’m mentally out and can’t wait to just clock out but the 4 days off was worth the tradeoff imo.
10 hour shifts. Probably the most ideal for me. Unlike 12 hour shifts, 10 didn’t feel as exhausting. Getting three days off is just as good too, for me i got Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off. The weekend was spent doing chores, with family, or with friends. Then when Monday came around, it was like a day to myself as family and friends all went back to work. It was my day to de-stress, read, play games and do whatever I want really.
8 hour shifts. Probably my least favorite. Only 2 days off and one of the days don’t even feel like a day off because I work after that second day. The week feels so much longer. A lot less free time. The work day definitely goes by a lot faster than the others obviously.
I think it depends on how long your commute is and what you do with your free time. If you are just sitting around then 5-8 is probably better since you get 2 more hours of leisure on 4 out of 7 days of the week. The issue with 10 or 12 hour work days is that it takes out almost all of your leisure time. It’s sleep, work, repeat for most of your week and it makes it hard to socialize with others.
If you use the extra day off for activities and/or you have a long commute then 4-10 is probably the best.
Currently on 4 10’s. It ain’t bad, 2nd shift overnight. OT kind of sucks though because you end up sleeping a whole day off away unless you run off of a nap.
I’ve done 4×10. It has its pros and cons. For me personally, I found that the inability to do anything meaningful with my evenings made the extra day off not worth it. But I didn’t hate it. 3 days off is certainly nice, although I didn’t get all mine in a row.
Yeah, extra day off. Plus I already do more than 8 hours of work per day in 8 hours. So I would have more free time. My daily report requirements would drop 20-25% depending how you did the math.
I like 9 hour days Monday through Thursday with every other Friday off. Also nice, the Friday you do work is only an 8 hour work day. Seems to help build time off quickly
I work 5 days. I work 6-10 hours, depending on what’s going on. I take off 2 days. Sometimes travel overlaps a Sunday evening, and rarely, a Saturday morning. Again, VERY RARE.
Let’s not mess with it. That kind of schedule is agreeable to most of us, me included.
I’m sure there are other avenues we can use our collective energy to improve.
I work 10.5 hrs during the week, 5:30am to 4:30pm, and 6 hrs on Saturday, 6am to noon. I’m going to be 38 in a week and I would ask for nothing less. I’m on my feet all day. I’d take more if they would give it to me.
3 12 hr shifts are best but yeah definitely 4 days a week. You can get so much more done with an extra day. I mean they’ve been trialling it in different companies and countries because its seen to have significant positive impact.
I’m all for it. The bit longer day isn’t going to make much negative difference for me.
I’d say overall, we have to shift into 4 day work weeks but wages need to stay the same as the 5 day if we go with the less hours. It is an adjustment that is better for the people. Companies can afford not to make billions.
I come from the power utility industry, We work 4-10s schedule when things are slow or so-so and it’s a very nice work-life balance, we are able to make the big money on outages etc… and during storms we often work a 40 hour initial shift and then 16-18 hours a day until power is restored that’s the way I like to do it, work 4/10s most of the year and have 3 day weekends and then get most of your overtime in just a few weeks out of the year
I work 4/10s in an office setting (architecture firm) with Fridays off. I like it a lot because of the extended weekends, and the longer day allows me to commute before and after rush hour and avoid the worst of it. Fridays are for chores and errands, and the weekend is otherwise free. I worked 9/9s before this (9s with every other Friday off) and the switch to 10s was tough but took less than a month to acclimate. I don’t know that I could ever go back to two day weekends.
That’s literally my work schedule. I had the option of 12hr shifts/3x per week or 4 10’s. I live an hour from work, so I took the 10 hour shift to avoid driving while exhausted and to keep my evenings, but if I lived closer, I’d have taken the 3 12s. I love having 3 days off per week and 10 hours doesn’t really feel all that different from 8 when you’re busy at work.
I work a Pittman schedule and it’s awesome. Previously I worked 8 hour shifts and the extra time along with every other weekend off is fantastic for my work life balance
A lot of people are already working 10+ hours a day. There are also countries that have proven the effectiveness of 4 day work weeks. I would be willing to put up with 10 hours per day, 4-day work weeks if it meant we got back our living wages in the U.S. The minimum wage was originally a living wage to begin with, but unfortunately there are a lot of people who try to claim that $15 – $20 hour is too much money because that’s what they make after working possibly decades. They either fail to notice that they’re being severely undercut or they’ve developed a slave mentality where they have accepted their lot in life. But to maintain some sense of pride they want to see someone lower than themselves, so that they don’t have to feel so bad everytime they see their boss gives themselves a raise and cuts their paychecks again…
Besides, the lack of a living wage and constantly working is PART of why people don’t feel they have time to get into serious relationships, buy homes, or start families.
I remember sometime back, there was a CEO who cut his own pay and gave all of his employees livable wages. Not only did his employees become more productive because they could live their lives finally, they started getting married, buying homes, having kids, taking nice vacations, etc. and to top it off his company’s profits nearly tripled after a bunch of the other big time corporations said he was going to bankrupt his company, “Go Woke, Go Broke” b/s, etc. It’s just a proven fact that happy people are more productive and boost the overall economy.
I’m in an industry where, while it’s technically feasible for me to be available only 4 days a week, it’s not a realistic solution. There are going to be a lot of people who run into this, whether or not being available counts as “working”.
What I’d rather see for myself and folks in a similar position is a greater level of PTO/vacation compensation for this specific issue. It’s probably the weakest part of my benefits at work, and I have it pretty dang good all things considered.
I currently work 3 12-hour shifts followed by 3 days off, then 4 12-hour shifts followed by 4 days off. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I still love it! Every weekend is a long weekend!!
Absolutely. I work (when there actually IS work) 15-18 hours a day five days a week and I didn’t realize how much it was killing me mentally and physically till they stopped making movies a couple years ago and I got happier and healthier almost immediately. 10 hours a day would make me feel like I was leaving right after I arrived. Haha
Why do we need to work 40 hours a week? Can someone remind me when we took the habits of eating whatever is on our plate instead of until we are full made its way into labor trends. We are significantly more productive than we used to be when 40 hour weeks became the standard, yet we still work the same amount of hours. We have not benefited at all from this increased productivity if we cannot reap the rewards, only the shareholders get that.
Why not 4 days a week, 8 hours a day? I worked at a company that trialled it for 16 weeks, two summers in a row, offering Friday off every week. Guess what our internal research found? No drop in productivity, in fact, a small gain on average. The company made more money. Average happiness in role went up.
Guess why we got rid of it despite the success? Shareholders complaining, and the founders claiming that “China does 6 days a week so we should be grateful to do 5.” 🙄
I work 10-14 hours a day and my week is 40hrs. So I work 3-4 days a week already. It suits me just fine with flexible work schedule I can start whenever as long as 40-hour is met. I could spread it over 6 days (sundays aren’t allowed due to extra pay) but I’m fine with my current situation.
I recently switched to this schedule. I didn’t want to, but my wife moved to 4/10s and wanted me to have the same schedule. I thought I would hate it, but I absolutely love it. The work days don’t feel noticeably longer, and I feel like I get more done. The three weekend days actually let me disconnect from work and feel like I have more of a life. I can take a vacation without having to take time off work. I have an extra day to get home projects done.
TLDR: It is wonderful. Anyone who has the option to work 4/10s should do it.
After eight hours, two more isn’t a big deal since everything you could have done in your day, you didn’t do because you were at work. And three full days of rest is motivational enough to avoid entering a depressive cycle or burn out.
I did something similar back when I worked in an oil rig where we worked 3 weeks and then got 1 week off.
It has its benefits like being able to travel a lot. But if you have responsibilities like family or pets that physically need you to be there to pick them up from school or take them to the park, its not a good fit.
Also, it may make your love life more difficult since you are never there for special occasions.
The first three months of 4x10s is just sacrificing the off Friday to sleep in and combat burn out. Also if you need to do anything besides work and commute on those ten hour days the schedule shakes apart like space shuttle Columbia.
9/80 is the superior schedule. Leaves flexibility for those to do things like pick up kids from school but still gives you every other
Friday off for trips.
Yea, man get away from me lol. 4 10 hour days is great boss, but when I get off of work on Thursday at 12a.m. please don’t tell me and my coworkers that something has came up, and we need to arrive at work on Friday at 6a.m.
I already do. I miss it when I was working 3 days and 12 hour shifts. The way I see it, you are already dedicating that day to work, why not work more hours and have a whole other day off?
I did 4/10s and it was great. 3-day weekend every week. I used far less vacation time. The only downside was if work was slow the day was loooooong. Otherwise I loved it.

Yes, because I want a 3 day weekend and am perfectly willing to sacrifice the other 4 days to make that happen
I used to work 10 hour shifts as-is for five days, might as well take four days lol
I don’t mind 4×10. But the (American) work week needs to be redone lol
No. I work 4 days a week and 7 hours a day and I don’t see why I would prefer longer days
Take it further; I’ll work 3 days a week 16 hours a day. I HATE having to plan around work every single day; having work just makes the rest of the day awful. I’d rather just take 3 days of nonstop grueling work and have every other day all to myself
Not for me. I’m an elder caregiver. 10 hours a day would be too much.
One on one care requires much bigger breaks.
Yes, after 8 hours of work, my day is pretty well shot anyway. I might as well work two hours more and have an extra day free.
Is prefer a four-day 8-hour-day week. Which is what the 4-day-week thing is all about.
Push for a 32 hour week instead of longer days.
4 tens never stays 4 tens. It always ends up being 5 or 6 tens.
I would prefer any shit, I’m out of a job now, damn country there’s no job.
I will be patient and continue studying.
Yes, I work 4 days a week now, and it’s good for my outside life.
Years ago I had a job like that and it wasn’t all that bad, but I wouldn’t want to do it again. If you have any kind of commute, you accomplish nothing but work on work days.
I worlk 4 days a week 10 hours and its GREAT
I’ve had a job where I worked ten hours a day, and I found that I don’t work as efficiently that way. I’d rather do 8 hours a day five days a week.
Had that schedule for a few years and I’d love to go back to it. Truly a game changer when holidays turn into 3 day work weeks and 4 day weekends, or when you get called for overtime and make real money for working 5 days a week. I’d jump at the chance to have that schedule again.
Did 4/10’s before would prefer it over 5 day work week. Felt like I had more freedom and time outside of work
Having done this before, absolutely yes! I miss my 3 day weekends every week!
I like my schedule. But I would prefer one or two WFH days.
I’m assuming you are making the comparison to 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week, and the answer is hell yes! The 4/10 schedule is a marked improvement over the 5/8. It provides more time to focus on your personal interests.
I like my 9/80 schedule. Every other Friday off is nice.
I do 4 10s and I would hate to go back to 5 8s. I have 2 days to run around and do grown up things and a whole day to do nothing.
Absolutely. Have actually done it in the past. Problem is with the type of work you do or that what your company does. My current company would still need to be “open” for service 5 days a week and even some on the weekends. Makes it harder to staff the full calendar.
If you’ve got to do 40 hours – 4x10s are amazing in my experience.
As long as it was guaranteed 4 10 hour days, instead of the 4 10s, then 8 in Friday and 8 on Saturday that we worked.
Which was better than 7 8s, but only barely.
yes, I currently work about 41 hours over 5 days but I can’t go to concerts (it’s my main hobby) on any of those five days since the concerts start at 16:00-19:00 and I usually finish work at 21:00 so I’d rather have an extra free day for concerts and only four days where I can’t go
10 hr days eat up your concept of free time. Work, go to bed. That’s how it feels.
Best shift is the one I am currently on 3 12s weekend days. Sure you lose your weekend but 4 days off is hard to beat. Take three days off with pto and get almost 2 weeks off. It is the most productive shift out of all of them and everyone is happier as whole it’s a win win.
I loved this schedule when I worked it
Absolutely not – this is my least favorite shift. I currently work five 8 hour shifts per week, but I would do three 12 hour shifts easily before I did four 10s again. With the 12s I got a second wind and 3 days off, with 10s I got exhausted and one day off was not enough.
Yes. But the countries adopting a 4 day work week have a 32 hour week, so I’d rather that.
I work 4 ten hour workdays and I would not be happy if I had to go back to 8 hour shifts. I like having 3 day weekends
Absolutely. More days off is always a win in my book, and based on my experience 10 hour shifts don’t feel that much worse than 8 hour shifts.
Less conmute , Less prep-time (cloth , Lunch ) , you have 1 weekday time for appointments.
I work this schedule currently. It’s not too bad, I really enjoy having 3 days off. I wouldn’t mind doing 3- 12’s either because those 3 days fly by.
4 10 hour days is the best to go. I wish I could work those hours all time
I used to work this schedule many years ago and I absolutely loved it.
Yeah, sure. Another entire day off means more trips for me.
I’d rather not be working 40 hours at all.
Absolutely yes! Without hesitation
Yes, 2 days is not enough and I often work close to 9 hours so what’s 1 more and earn a 3 day weekend
I would work 4 10s in a heartbeat and would be so much more productive.
If it was logistically possible given running kids around, yes.
But right now, it isn’t.
My job was going to try it 5 years ago…but a certain pandemic killed that chance.
I’d pick Wednesday if I could, no more than 2 days in a row.
It sucks Four days a week, 8 hours per day is what we need
I work in film/television, that sounds too good to be true
No thanks, I will keep my 6 days 30 hours
I work 1 48hr shift per week and really enjoy having so much time off. I’d definitely prefer 4 10s to 5 8s, but wouldn’t want to trade into either
Four tens is the best shit, ever. Period. Hard stop
Shit i worked 6am to 6pm 6 days per week for years. 4x 10’s or 3x 12’s sounds awesome!!
Hell yes. It’s a better deal for me.
I work 10 hours a day 5 days a week. I will take the work 4 days for 10 hours.
Get a salaried corporate job and I promise you, you’ll work an actual of 20-30 hours per week and still get paid the full 40. Yes sometime you’ll have to rev up, but it’s literally the easiest money you can make.
Yes, cause then I get a longer weekend and that’s one less day I have to take the car out, meaning less money spent on gas
Knowing what I know now at my job, I wish I picked the four by ten. I like my job, but getting Friday off every week would be sick.
And Friday regulated holidays means I’m off Thursday too.
I have and I do. A little longer day is no big deal compared to how nice that 3rd day off is. Love it.
Been doing this since 2008.
Greatest shift imo.
I haven’t worked a Monday in more than a decade and a half.
I do this already and will never go back to a 5 day work week voluntarily.
I have worked a ton of different schedules.
7am-7pm 4 days a week on a rotating team schedule where you get 5 days off in a row every 3rd week.
8am-5pm M-F.
6am-230pm M-F
6am-430pm M-Thurs
Anytime before 8am-whenever the work stops for the day 5-6 days a week.
And currently 7am-5pm M-F most of the time except sometimes it’s 7am-11pm 6-7 days a week for a couple weeks at a time.
One thing I have learned is I would prefer to not work.
No, because I would prefer 4 days a week that are 8 hours. Or 5 days a week that are 6. Basically any combination that is fewer hours.
I’ve done 4 days a week and 10 a pop. Perfered it to 8 5s
I work a 7 day on 7 day off and it’s awesome
No doubt. I already work 10-12 hour days, 5 days a week!
Yes, it’s only 2 more hours.
I do not understand how you all work shifts.
If you want to take a 9-day vacation, you only need to use four vacation days instead of five.
did 4 12s and then 3 12s every 2 weeks. it was nice having a 4 day weekend, but you have no time to do anything on work days
Please, I’d love it. The weekend isn’t restful with 2 kids at home, it’s just more work. 1 day to myself would be wonderful.
No I don’t want to work more than 8 hours a day
I work 2 12 hour days, then I’m off for 24 hours and do 2 12 hour night shifts. Then I get 4 days off. It makes for strange days because I used to look forward to weekends. Now, I never really know what day of the week it is
I’m a railroader having a schedule of any type would be phenomenal.
This one worked a factory job in college, and at first they were 5 days at 8 hours a day. But partway through they switched to 4 days at 10 hours a day, and everyone preferred that.
Yes I would love that except for that it doesn’t work with my daycares hours if operation
Nice try, Jeff Bezos…
I work 4/12 hr shifts. 4 days on 4 days off. And rotate to nights every 8 weeks. Love it
I have worked 4-10s before.
I work 12 hours a day for 5 days a week, I feel it doesn’t exhaust me as much as working all week
So I get a reduction in hours per day and less days per week? Is pay the same? What’s the catch?
I very much would prefer 10 hours 4 days
4-10s is glorious. I don’t really notice the 2 extra hours.
I work a 9/80 that gives me every other Friday off which I like but would gladly do an extra hour Monday-Thursday for every Friday off.
I’ll take the schedule my friends had when he is on 4 10a during daylight savings. He works Monday and Tuesday, off Wednesday, work Thursday, Friday.
Im already working 10 hrs almost everyday. All I see is positive here. If Its a 4 day work week.
Currently on 4 10’s. It ain’t bad, 2nd shift overnight. OT kind of sucks though because you end up sleeping a whole day off away unless you run off of a nap.
4 tens is the best schedule.
still enough time to fix your car and wash your ass
but with the addition of knocking Friday off every week.
when I break down the cost of my schedule change it took 9 dollars an hr to make me leave 4 tens to 5 eights
I worked 4×10 for years and loved it.
3×13 would be fine too…
I’ve done 4×10.
I’ve worked many versions of 8-hr, 10-hr, and 12-hr shifts on my career. Having a 3-day weekend every week is an amazing plus when working four tens…
4/8 hours
Sure, if I can work the 5th day for OT.
I come from the power utility industry, We work 4-10s schedule when things are slow or so-so and it’s a very nice work-life balance, we are able to make the big money on outages etc… and during storms we often work a 40 hour initial shift and then 16-18 hours a day until power is restored that’s the way I like to do it, work 4/10s most of the year and have 3 day weekends and then get most of your overtime in just a few weeks out of the year
Yes. I’ve done it before and it rocks.
Get your weekly hours and three days off. Company gets its full production. No losers.
Vs 12 a day and calls on weekends, sure!
I work 8 nines
And an eight
So I get every second Friday off.
Haven’t done both, I like 4x 10s more though
Much better than 5-8, it’s like gaining a day out of the week.
I don’t know that I could ever go back to two day weekends.
yes.
three days off is great.
Depends on the day off. Friday or Monday? Yes. Wednesday? Not so much.
Yes , the extra day off is crucial.
I work a Pittman schedule and it’s awesome. Previously I worked 8 hour shifts and the extra time along with every other weekend off is fantastic for my work life balance
I already do (overnights Sun night to Thurs morning) and yes. Two extra hours a day to get one entire extra day off? I like my 3 day weekends.
When I worked dispatch it was 3 12s overnight but it was on the weekend and they didn’t pay me for the 40, not as big of a fan with that one.
no because thats still 40 hours a week compressed into a shorter time.
I worked Monday-Thursday and had Friday,Saturday,Sunday off for years. It was the best schedule I’ve ever had.
I work Sunday through Wednesday 10 hour days and off Thursday, Friday and Saturday
I love it
A lot of people are already working 10+ hours a day.
I work 4 10 hour shifts. I’ll never go back to 5 8 hour shifts
Yes I would.
I am working 9.5hr/10hr a day x 5 days a week so doing it for 4 days would be great.
I would prefer working 4 days a week, but six or seven hours a day.
I would love that because it would be a reduction in both days and hours per day that I currently work
Yes. That’s already my schedule and it’s great.
I work this schedule right now, it rocks. Having every Monday off is incredible. Having every Friday off would be even better.
I’ve also done alternating 3 on/4 off-4 on/3 off 12 hour days. That also rocked.
5×8 is the worst.
Everyone here saying less hours working like a 4×8 is incredible, sure, but that’s highly unrealistic given most of our wages.
I currently work 3 12-hour shifts followed by 3 days off, then 4 12-hour shifts followed by 4 days off. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I still love it! Every weekend is a long weekend!!
I have worked 4 ten hour days and it is amazing.
This is my new schedule and it’s great. My day off is also on a Wednesday, with weekends always off. So I never work more than 2 days in a row.
lol hell to the no- I’d prefer working 4 days a week 6 hours a day. Maybe someday. They’ve gotten all they will get out of me.
Yes I work 8-6 four days a week with a Wednesday off!
410 or 510 … yeah I’ll take 4
Absolutely! Time flys by and you would have so much more time to enjoy life.
Gimme 2-20hr days.
Yes. I currently work 5-6 days a week 12 hours a day.
So…. yeah.
This is what I’m doing now and it’s amazing, my quality of life is noticeably better and I have so much more time for activities
After eight hours, two more isn’t a big deal since everything you could have done in your day, you didn’t do because you were at work. And three full days of rest is motivational enough to avoid entering a depressive cycle or burn out.
Yes, because I already work 10 hours per day, five days a week.
Lmao I work 5 days a week and it is 12/14/14/10/10 this week…. I would take either of these options
Yes, yes and yes.
I never work 8 hours a day anyway. Might as well add 2 hours of extra chill time at the end to get a long weekend.
I get all my shit done in 2 hours a day anyway so who cares.
I already do 24hr work day for 3–4days a week so….
I’d love to only work 4 days per week and only 10 hours per day. Sign me up!!
Well I already often end up working 10 hours so, this would be an improvement for me lol.
I work 5 days a week, 10 hours a day anyways. So definitely yes!
Yes, it’s glorious.
This is exactly what i work just now, 6am to 4.15pm, 15 min break at 10am and a half hour lunch at 1pm. Mon to Thursday.
Its the best thing ive had in my working life. I have already turned down 2 job offers with a decent pay rise to stay here.
Yes where do I sign up XD
Yea, man get away from me lol. 4 10 hour days is great boss, but when I get off of work on Thursday at 12a.m. please don’t tell me and my coworkers that something has came up, and we need to arrive at work on Friday at 6a.m.
Yes! My first day off, I sleep because I’m exhausted and worn out. The next day, I do house chores. On my third day off, I enjoy doing something fun!
