[X-men] Is storm expected to stop natural disasters?

r/

Like say there’s a massive hurricane headed for Florida or a tsunami is going to devastate Thailand. Maybe there’s a horrible drought in Mexico. I’m guessing she wouldn’t be too thrilled because national governments are generally hostile towards mutants, but there’s still millions of innocent that would be affected and thousands that could die.

Also, if she helps one country, maybe another country would be upset that they themselves didn’t get help?

Smaller disasters would be the best for her. If the storm is big enough. It’s possible that instead of being able to ‘stop’ it. She can merely ‘direct’ or ‘lessen’ it.

    Sort of
The way I understand it, is that Storms powers have an inherent “cause and effect” type rider to them.

A lightning bolt or some rain here and there isn’t going to do much.

But summoning up torrential rain to flood one area is going to leave some other area in a drought.

She also canonically (or at least used to, I don’t know what power level she’s at now) struggles to control particularly aggressive weather that is already happening. So unless she preemptively does something, she may end up losing control of herself trying to reign whatever is happening in, and make things a whole lot worse.

It really depends. She has stopped major storms, depending on how bad it is sometimes she doesn’t even really stop them. She just simmer them down enough for people hypothetically to evacuate if it’s really bad but she doesn’t always fully stop them. It’s also harder for her because she knows there’s a balance with nature. She can’t just go altering things for the sake of it. It’s also extremely stressful because she’s not just managing that storm. She’s managing the weather pattern of the whole world by moving things around and shifting them

The thing is this, if she stops a natural disaster, like a hurricane a blizzard or weather happening in one location, while it’s raining and snowing in another, it actually completely messes up the earths natural rythem.

When she stopped heavy rain in one area (nonstop rain btw), it floods another area where the water needs to go/appear. This is why she can’t just go to the Middle East and then magically give them water for the rest of their life because that area was a designed/designated that way from the Earth itself. If she drops water there, she needs to take it away from somewhere else so let’s say she takes the water away from the Amazon forest, shifts it to the Middle East.

The Amazon forest will become a desert. Killing all the wildlife that lives there.

She doesn’t just snap her fingers and everything stops. She has to move it around. She can sense the weather pattern locally, the temperature in the wind blocks away or miles away while simultaneously can feel weather conditions in different locations.

No, not everyone is indoctrinated in the cult of “great power, great responsibility.” Some people do what they want.

I don’t write for X-Men, but my head-canon is butterfly effect. If she tries to mess with real nature, rather than the stuff she conjures up, it’ll just be worse somewhere else.

Not as much as any supergenius is expected to make a weather-controlling machine. She can’t be everywhere at once and she can’t protect the whole planet by herself.

If a country wants to call the Avengers or a mutant wants to “think of X” and try to have the X-Men help with relief, then I mean, sure, it would be nice if they stopped the hurricane or the tsunami incoming. But other than that, they usually deal with unnatural disasters a lot more.

Besides, changing the state of one drastic weather event in one part of the world will affect the rest of the planet somehow.
